A Celebration of Thanksgiving

(NOTE: To all of my followers, please start following me on http://moreofpositivemornings.wordpress.com) I plan on having the best of the “Positive Mornings” articles transferred by the end of January. Until then I am double posting to both sites.

A Celebration of Thanksgiving

Author: Lori Carter

There were 53 Pilgrims that sat down to the first “traditional” Thanksgiving feast with King Massasoit and 90 of his warriors on the chilly day in 1621 at Plymouth. This time was what triggered the “Thanksgiving Day” that we celebrate each year in the United States.

Although it was the first “harvest” celebration in this new land, days of Thanksgiving have been celebrated worldwide for centuries. In English tradition, they were celebrated with religious services during the reign of Henry VIII. Before 1536 there were 95 Church Holidays, many of them “thanksgiving” oriented. As the number of these were diminished over the years, there would be new “Fasting and Thanksgiving” days called for because of times of need and natural disasters as the drought of 1611, floods in 1613 and the plague from 1604 and 1622.

Almost each and every country has the same kind of celebration, no matter what Gods they serve. They are days set aside to be thankful for the harvest, for deliverance from natural disasters and man-made wars. Thanksgiving has been a part of every culture in some form or another throughout all generations.

As your thoughts wander through all the festivities, time with family, and feasts that are being enjoyed today, stop to pray for those who have less. It is a sad fact but, oh so true, that many are alone or in dangerous situations this “Thanksgiving Day”. Soldiers in the fields, hungry, homeless, sick and disabled are large in numbers. Elderly, forgotten, and excluded people sit alone trying to reach out to better times, better circumstances and memories of better days.

Be thankful for what you have, be thankful for what you don’t have and pray unceasingly for those who have less. If you are alone today, feeling the pressures of life on your shoulders, if you are homeless, poor or far from home, there are still things you can find in your day to be thankful for. Reach out to someone today, if only in prayer, and thank our almighty God for all that you do have.

Be Blessed and Happy Thanksgiving, Lori

It’s Time to Pray

Isaiah 41:10  fear not, for I am with you;  be not dismayed, for I am your God; I will strengthen you, I will help you,  I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.

Psalm 27:4-5 One thing have I asked of the LORD, that will I seek after: that I may dwell in the house of the LORD all the days of my life, to gaze upon the beauty of the LORD and to inquire in his temple.  For he will hide me in his shelter in the day of trouble; he will conceal me under the cover of his tent; he will lift me high upon a rock.

I’ve been through many storms in my life. I sat through the Blizzard of 1978, in the very heart of downtown Cleveland. I watched as a three story sign on a pole was bent to the ground within a few hours from the strong winds. I felt my way around the front walls of our apartment building in complete white-out conditions to the small store next door to get us some food to eat. I watched out the windows on a silent town where no other person, car, truck or animal was seen and felt like I was alone in the world.

We evacuated from one side of the state to another in the threat of a hurricane shortly after we moved to Florida. I drove through hurricane force winds that knocked my wipers off the windshield in an attempt to get home and evacuate after Ken passed away. I sat in my mobile home and weathered many tropical storms with water rising into the Florida room, afraid that I could be washed away at any given moment.

I have been in droughts, blizzards, tropical storms, flooding and the like, but through all of it I came out unscathed. I never suffered an injury or loss from any of these storms. All of my personal losses have been through the cruelness of others and bad decisions I have made over the years. I have lost loved ones because God chose to take them home.

I cried over my mother’s passing as my sister related her last minutes on earth. I agonized over my half-sisters murder and wondered what kind of person saw fit to stab her 17 times and strangle her too! I watched as my deceased husband dwindled and wasted away over the five years we were together from medical conditions that could not be cured. I cried with my sister over the tragic accident that took her daughter’s life, but I have never lost anyone or anything over a natural disaster. In everything that has happened in my life, God has been near; even though there were times I doubted it.

I cannot even imagine what these people are going through. The agony and pain of seeing a loved one drown or be torn away in the wind, the crushing experience of seeing your home, what you have worked so hard for all those years, washed away, burning or falling down, or the fear of not knowing what tomorrow will bring, where you will live, how you will eat and how you will care for your children and relatives, is unfathomable to me as it is to many others.

Loss of life and possessions is never easy.  Losing those close to you in such a horrendous fashion can leave wounds that will never heal. Losing everything you spent a life time working for in the flash of a flood or the strength of a wind, and knowing you have to start all over again can be pure agony.  Many will draw on their faith and persevere, but many who haven’t yet turned to Jesus with their life may very well give up.

It is time for everyone, especially all of those who have not been victims of disasters such as Katrina and Sandy to fall to their knees in prayer, thanking God for his blessing and protection. It is time for all of us to renew our relationship with the Lord and strive to continue that relationship in the right way. It is just as important to take time out of your busy day to pray for so many that were affected by this freak of nature storm and if you are able to help in any way, do not hesitate. Remember those who are devastated and homeless and remember, that even though it has not touched you, everything can change much too quickly, anytime, anyplace, at any given moment.

I pray that God will be with all of those in NY, Atlantic City, Delaware, Washington, Connecticut, Maryland, Virginia, Canada, and all the other locations devastated by this storm. Will you join me in prayer?

Feast or Famine?

Author: Lori Carter

Where are you at today? Are you going through a time, where you don’t feel directed by God, where you don’t feel that he is using you? Is it a dry time, when you feel almost like he isn’t there, that he isn’t showing you how to use the talents and gifts he has given you? Are you experiencing a period of famine? Everything seems to have dried up, and you feel he no longer has a plan for you? Relax; you are still going to feast on his love, his purpose, his mercy and blessings in your life.

Just as God made each one of us individually, just as he gave us each different talents and gifts, he also has different uses and plans for each of us. There are times we will go through, where we are certain he is using us for his purpose and times when we feel he has forgotten our willingness to be used. Certainly, since he is God, there are times he will use us for his purpose without our knowledge.

During those times of famine you are experiencing, he is still using you. It may be that he is using you as an example to others, or he wants you to say the perfect word at the right time to a certain person or group of people.

I can recall times where people have thanked me for what I said. These were times that I cannot even recall the subject of the conversation or the words I spoke. Why? Because it was a time that God was using me, without prior notification or knowledge, to speak the right words at the right time to the right individual, words they needed to hear, that spoke to a certain problem or to direct them to a certain goal.

I have been on the receiving end of this type of use by god several times in my life. There have been people, who have entered my life, said the right thing at the right time that I needed to hear, and they have no recollection of the conversation.

So, even if you feel like you are going through a time of famine, rejoice, for you are in fact, seated at the right hand of God at the feast, for he is still using you for his purpose in ways you cannot even imagine. You may never know it at the time, but at some future time he will allow you to see how he used you to complete a task.

Feast or famine? It is always feast for me, now that I understand that he can use me for his purpose in so many different ways.

Matthew 5:14-16 You are the light of the world. A city located on a hill cannot be hidden. 15 People do not light a lamp and put it under a basket but on a lampstand, and it gives light to all in the house. 16 In the same way, let your light shine before people, so that they can see your good deeds and give honor to your Father in heaven

How do you like Your Coffee?

Author: Lori Carter

I love coffee. I have been indulging in many varieties since I was around 16 years old. Let’s see, that means I have been drinking coffee for the last 44 years and it hasn’t seemed to harm me in the least bit. At one time they were claiming that coffee caused cancer. A few years ago that all changed and all of a sudden coffee was great for you because it was full of flavonoids and antioxidants. There was a recent study that suggested that drinking coffee for years could affect your eyesight. Gee, that strikes me as not being completely correct. I have my eyes checked every two years as suggested for my age and the change for the last 6 years has only been slight.

The point I am trying to make is that you can’t believe everything you see, hear and read. One study group said eggs were bad for you, that it would increase your cholesterol which could cause build-up in your arteries and eventually cause heart problems. A few years later they were saying eggs are good for you. They are great source of protein. Now it is a toss-up on whether it is the whole egg or just the egg whites.

Every year there are studies done on the food we consume. Unfortunately none of these studies ever agree with previous studies. There is always something different that used to be good for you, but now is bad or used to be bad and now it’s good. The sorry fact is that we are never completely sure what we are consuming unless we grow it ourselves. Out governments food and drug administration approves different chemicals, additives and enhancers every year, so unless you can understand all the chemical jargon, you aren’t completely sure what you are ingesting.

The same thing can be said about religions. Religion, it itself is no more than a type of government that tells you what to believe, what rituals and habits you must perform to attain a certain level of acceptance in God’s and the Church’s eyes. They promise that you will benefit from following their laws even though they may have added some “chemicals and enhancers” along the way.  For example, some believe you should be baptized at birth while others feel the baptism should be performed after you receive Christ as your savior.

Some churches insist you should recite certain prayers for certain needs, prayers for forgiveness and absolution, and prayers for different church holidays or life changing events. Some churches even insist that classes should be taken before you become a member so you understand what you have to do to be a member in good standing.

I am a researcher and I love to look for all kinds of things. While I am not a bible scholar, I can’t seem to find anywhere in there, except in the Old Testament where you had to atone for your sins on earth. True, in the Old Testament, after God brought the people into a new land, he set up certain rules for sacrifices to atone for sins. This, however, was done away with in the New Testament because Jesus was the final sacrifice.

According to the churches I have attended since I was a child, one belief is common. The New Testament, the words of Jesus and his teachings, are the standard by which we should live. Nowhere in the New Testament does it say that we should confess our sins to one individual, and that individual has the power to forgive us if we say so many different, memorized prayers.

Each denomination tries to enforce or influence its rules and beliefs on its members. True Christians and their churches simply preach what the bible says and believe that following the rules and commandments that Jesus set forth during his teachings is the true way to live. Unfortunately so many believe that following strict legalities as set forth by higher church officials will open Heavens gates for them. I feel sorry for those who do not realize that Christ lives in the heart and not the rule books of any given church. They believe everything that they are told by “men” the same as so many do when it comes to deciding what foods are good for you and what ones are bad.

As for me, I try to eat as healthy as possible for that is just the logical way. Taking care of the bodies God gave you will only make you feel better. I am not going to stop eating or drinking anything that I have consumed for years simply because a study says they think it is bad, just as I will not stop believing in God because someone insists he doesn’t exist.

I will keep drinking my coffee, flavored with cinnamon, honey, vanilla, hazelnut or any other flavor that taste good to me. How do you like your coffee?

Out with the Old, In with the New: The God Box

Author: Lori Carter

My God Box

I wrote an article not long ago about “the God Box”. I included how it was symbolic of releasing problems you can’t take care of into God’s hands. Totally releasing something to God means you don’t take it back and try to solve it yourself.

I have found out that when I do that, those problems that I thought were insurmountable often slipped to the back of my mind and became less important than solving the day to day catastrophes that always seem to pop up. When I have cleared out “the God Box” on past occasions I have often found many prayers answered that I had even forgot I put in there, and some of them were considered large prayers at the time I released them.

I cleared out the God box the other day because I received answers and solutions to two very big prayers, ones that I have desired a solution to for years. As I was going through my “God Box”, I not only removed those two slips of papers, but found five other ones I released to God and had not realized he answered it.

Even if you don’t use the God Box method, once you release something entirely to God, he allows it to slip from the front of your mind to the back, giving you peace that the prayer will be answered in the right way (his way) at the right time (his time) for the best (his best) of all those concerned.

The great thing about clearing out my “God Box” is that it shows me that I was able to have enough faith in him, that I completely forgot about some of these prayer needs. The other great thing was that I didn’t have any new problems or prayers to put into the “God Box”. Even though there is nothing to release to him at this time, I know, down the line, there will be new ones that only he can take care of.

I have the peace and surety of knowing whatever I go to him about in prayer, he hears, he knows, and he will resolve. If you have trouble releasing things to God, if you find you often take back a problem you have given him and still have no solution, I would suggest you make a God box and learn to release completely to him, all of those needs, problems and items you cannot solve yourself.

There are some prayers that will stay in the God Box forever, because they are situations, problems or needs that are life-long.

“Cast your cares on the LORD and he will sustain you; he will never let the righteous fall” (Psalm 55:22) “Cast all your anxiety on him because he cares for you” (1 Peter 5:7)

Beautiful sunset as viewed from the local cemetary

I’m sure that many of my readers thought I lost my mind on my last article. I just see God as being so BIG that there is no limit to what he might have created. I hope, though, that it caused many of you to stop and reflect on your feelings about how powerful God really is. He isn’t obligated to report to us everything he does and considering the two sets of fallen Angels, those who have a great influence on today’s world, he may have never planned for us to know what is presenting itself these days.

The very best you can hope for in this day and age is to take one day at a time, but always keep your eyes open and do not ignore what is going on. Many people choose to ignore the events and morals of our declining civilization, thinking that if they lead a blinded, pious life, it will put them more in God’s grace.

The sad fact is that we are negligent when we do this. Jesus instructed that the good news should be shared. Those who believe will live a new life with him in new bodies that won’t get sick, tire or age. We will live as immortals without a care in the world for at least a thousand years. That is a thousand years in God’s time, not ours so it may seem like infinity to us.

There are bad times coming. All you have to do is watch the news. Don’t scan just the local news, but national and international as well. Watch what is going on all over the world, not just in wars,  violence and crime but unusual phenomena as well.

Revelations gives us a glimpse into what is coming, it all depends on the interpretation and sadly I have never heard a minister or preacher yet that interpreted it the same. There is still an ongoing argument on whether the rapture or tribulation will come first, but in looking at this world today, the thought that the tribulation is coming first may be correct.

Keep your ears and eyes open, keep your loved ones close and be prepared for the worst. Those that survive are the ones who not only keep their faith in Jesus, but do some preparations for the worst. If the rapture comes first, there possibly could be some left behind because they are chosen by God to help spread the word to the last few that will be taken.

As always, I pray for blessings on you all. May our BIG God strengthen you, protect you and guide you.

There is a Strange Wind Blowing

Author: Lori Carter

I have fought against writing this article for a long time. I was more worried about what people would think of me than getting a message across to many who need to hear it. I have prayed and prayed about this article since it came to mind, hoping that I was mistaken when I felt I was being told to write it. No matter how many times I wanted to avoid this subject, I have been told that there are elements in it that people need to know about.

First and foremost, I must reiterate my beliefs. I am a Christian. I believe in the Father, the Son and the Holy Ghost. I have been the recipient of his miracles, healing, direction and comfort many times in my life. I gave my life over to Jesus in my early forties and have had the blessing and help of the Holy Ghost on many occasions. Those who know me personally are well aware of what I believe, of what kind of person I am. I can only ask that as you start readings this, those of you whom I have never met, that you read it with an open mind.

Proof in the Bible

I have stated before, that while I believe the Bible to be a great history and the basic rules to live by, that there is much that has been changed and left out.  What we must remember is that the Bible was a compilation of writings gathered and perused by a group of scholarly men many centuries ago. The early church wanted something that could be passed down to all generations with an agenda on how we are supposed to live. The items that were left out were judged on certain elements and labeled too late, heretic, not written by one of the apostles, and just too extreme.

Although many are taught that dealing with spirits, dimensions, mysticism and such is the work of the devil, we need to thoroughly read the bible, slowly and with attention and will see that there incidents when God allowed certain of his people to use magic or mystic methods to achieve answers, knowledge and results.

For instance, Saul went to the witch of Endor and had her bring up the spirit of Samuel because he was tired of waiting for God to answer his prayers about the Philistines. Laban, in Genesis 30:27 tells Jacob that through divination he has learned that the lord has blessed him because of Jacob’s presence. Jacob, later in the same chapter uses stripped branches from poplar, almond and plane trees to cause the sheep, when mating, to birth spotted or striped offspring.

Other instances shown in the Bible can be found in Genesis 44:5 which indicates that Joseph used the technique of scrying, Numbers 5:12-31 where a concocts a magic potion. Daniel was used as the supervisor of all the magicians (Daniel 5:11). In Numbers 26:55, Proverbs 16:33 and Proverbs 18:18 pieces of wood with markings (similar to the dice of today) were thrown and read to predict the will of God.

You don’t often hear pastors preaching about this. In fact most churches teach that if you even think or get interested in this, you are opening a door for Satan.

There are many books that were left out of the bible that should probably have been included, but the church wanted something put together to cause people to live the way they determined they should and to forget about anything outside of those rules and ordinances. They (men) decided that something wasn’t within the right timeline, that something was so extreme or bizarre that it should be labeled heretic.

Other Important Information

The bible, for instance, talks about two groups of fallen angels, but today’s preachers group them together as one. There are the angels that fall with Satan, but there are also the watchers, who were set to watch over the human race, but chose to interact and mate with them. Just as the Bible states there were two trees in the Garden of Eden but you very rarely hear a sermon that includes both. The book of Enoch goes into great detail about the watchers and they are not linked with Satan or his followers

Each time the bible has been translated; something has been changed, added or left out. For instance, the apostles’ names were of Hebrew origin and changed at a later date to English names people could relate to easier. Simon was originally Shi’mon, John was originally Y’hochanan, Matthew was Mattithyahu and James was Ya’aqov. You get the idea?

If you study different cultures, you will see evidences of biblical truth. Most of them talk about a great flood, famine and a pale faced man that appeared to them and was worshiped as a god. This man performed miracles, healing and taught them things just as Jesus did with the Jews and Gentiles.

Archeological digs have turned up evidence of weird events and creatures all over the world. Carvings on cave walls, in mound areas, deep underground and on ancient trees show vehicles and beings coming from the sky. Many finds also show a similar face that was considered a deity or god to them.

Now to tie all of this together; I am not saying Jesus rode around in UFO’s and I am not saying that extraterrestrials are benevolent. In fact, I believe just the opposite. You see, as I look back on my life, and Rich looks back on his, there are many events that happened to us that cannot be completely explained. Some bad, that we attribute to the possibility of aliens, demons, evil spirits, evil mankind and even the possibility of the fallen angels and others that there is no doubt had to be angels sent by God.

Good Angels

I had just become a Christian. I was attending every service and faithfully reading my bible. For three nights I had a horrible nightmare. I was lifted off my bed. I was paralyzed, could not move or speak and I felt fear like I had never felt before. I started calling out to God in my head on the third night for the fear I felt was so overwhelming. When I called out to him in silence, I, all of sudden, fell to the bed, bounced and landed on the floor.

As I was trying to untangle my feet, I saw a being standing next to my bed. It appeared to be a man, but I can’t recall what he was wearing, what he looked like, or how old he was. He was staring at the space in which I had been floating in. He had a very stern look on his face. I finally got the covers off my feet and went to stand up, but he was gone. I realized as I stood there, that the last three nights had not been a dream. They had been real occurrences.  This never happened again. I fully believe that when I called out to God, he sent an angel to my rescue.

Several years ago, before I knew him, Rich was sent an angel. Rich has a hereditary disease and a seizure disorder. On this particular night he got very sick to his stomach, went into a Grand Mal seizure and died. When I say he died, his heart stopped beating as they were transporting him to the closest hospital. They got the pulse back, but the heart stopped again when they were transferring him to a larger, better equipped hospital. They tried everything they could at the larger hospital, but nothing was working.

They were getting ready to call the time and tag his toe, when a women walked in, said “we are not giving up on him” touched his chest, and his heart started. This is what he was told by one of the paramedics that worked on him, the day he left two weeks later. The paramedic told him that no one knew the woman, no one could remember exactly what she looked like, and no one could find her afterward. God sent him an angel.

Fallen Angels?

Three years ago, this month we had something bad happen to us. We had been taking photos of the beautiful rural area we live in. We decided to take some at night to see if we could find deer, raccoons and other night time animals moving around and feeding. We took this one route out east of town on several occasions. In one picture we had a beautiful, blue orb, so we went back to see if we found anything else. I had noticed, on one night, that we got back home much later than usual. The following two times after that we took a tape recorder. Two or three nights we lost time. We lost an hour each night that we can’t account for. We had strange, bizarre and frightening pictures and the tape recordings were so horrible that we eventually had to destroy them in order to get on with our lives.

We were abducted, we believe, by aliens with human cooperation or involvement. We, have since then, been trying to search, trying to find out exactly what happened to us. In this search, we have found photographic proof of so much more. A digital camera cannot lie, it cannot have hallucinations, it cannot imagine things, and it can only take pictures of images that are present.

There are UFO sightings around the world each and every day. They are not imagined by the people taking the videos and photographs. Many of these vehicles have even showed up as blips on radar screens. They have been seen and photographed by many, very credible people including pilots, astronauts, military personnel, clergy, governmental officials as well as everyday people.

I do not believe that aliens, extraterrestrials and UFO are benevolent. What accosted us in the woods that night, three years ago, were not benevolent beings or benevolent humans. Richard and I continued our research and have found so much more. We will continue our research, because we believe that what we find, what we show others is important. It may be one of the ways God is warning the human race that they don’t have much time left.

Are these invaders fallen angels, disciples of the devil, demons, spirits, dimensional beings or are they from another planet that God put life on, that instead of advancing in immorality, advanced so far in technology that they no longer have the human emotions that god instilled in us?

I don’t have the answer; I can only relate what I believe. If we are to believe that God is all powerful, always present and created everything, then how difficult is it to believe that he created other races on other worlds that turned away from his teachings, his laws just as this world has. All I can say with surety is that there is much more out there than the bible says there is.

I ran a poll on Facebook one time, asking my Christian friends if they believed in life on other planets, possible visiting us and the response was an overwhelming “yes” with the exception of one ex-pastor friend who said if it’s not in the bible, it doesn’t exist. He then judged me as fallen in sin and unfriended me. He also stated that all of these were tricks of the devil to draw our attention off God, but I can truly say it has done just the opposite for me. It has shown me just how powerful, how great our God really is.

And Now in Closing I will Say

There is so much more to our God than most of us even want to realize. Yes, I am a Christian, and yes I believe that there is much evil, much destruction and much pain coming that will affect the good right along with the bad. It is our faith, our belief in Christ that will allow us to fight the battles and survive when the time arrives.

I do not believe, in any way, shape or form that what is visiting us is of God, is benevolent or helpful. We will keep looking and we will keep sharing, but in the meantime, if you aren’t right with God, get right with him for your time may be much shorter than you realize. There is a strange wind blowing and only God knows what it will bring with it.

If you are interested in what we are finding visit the Midnight Observer to see our finds. If you have an open mind, if you truly believe in God, then you must believe that there is so much more to him and his power than he has told us about. Remember, he has no obligation to tell us everything he does, but we, on the other hand will always be obligated to him.

I apologize for such a long article, but there was much information that needed to be included..As always, I pray for blessings on you all. Lori
